A Cowboy's Prayer for Jack McLeod
We lay you down with tears upon our cheeks
for the chance one day when we will meet you
on that distant dusty road to heaven.
May you ride long into the sunset, with a
soft breeze calling you home.
You'll not saddle your pony, no more shall you
roam. From now until then, the cold earth
is your home.
Forever in silence, you'll call to you steed, to
ride swiftly 'till dawn, so you may finish your deeds.
To set all things right, like the good Lord intended
You've been loyal and true and you have mended your
fences.
It's time to move on to that long road ahead
Try as we might, we can't bring you back from the dead
as we lay down our heads, on our pillows we'll pray
On the joy and the sadness you've brought us this day.
Put your tack on the block, where your saddle is true
But be rest assured, there's no doubt, we will all miss you
Ride fast into the sunset, while our hearts fill with pain
You've done a good job cowboy, Until we meet you again.
